Certified Nursing Aide – Overview
The Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) works under the direction of a licensed professional nurse and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient care in accordance with the unit care delivery model. The role upholds Centra’s quality and service standards, maintains a safe environment, and adheres to Virginia regulations for CNAs.
Responsibilities- Provide and document patient care under the direction of the registered or licensed practical nurse as outlined in the plan of care, including assistance with activities of daily living such as meals, bathing, ambulation, toileting, turning, and repositioning.
- Monitor and record vital signs and intake and output; assist with medication handling within applicable areas.
- Promote patient comfort by responding to call lights (where applicable) and communicating observations or needs to nursing staff.
- Contribute to safe and efficient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Respect patient rights to comfort, privacy, and dignity while providing care.
- Maintain a clean and safe unit and patient rooms, protecting patients from harm.
- Follow unit policies and procedures and interact appropriately with other caregivers.
- Handle medication transport when required and follow applicable protocols.
- Apply unit service excellence best practices when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
- Use resources cost effectively.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives based on evidence and unit metrics.
- Practice Centra safety behaviors and resolve conflict promptly and consistently.
- Engage in professional development through self‑appraisal, academic credits, and attendance at educational programs.
- Certified as a Nurse Aide by the Department of Health Professions of Virginia.
- AHA BLS CPR Certification.
- At least 1 year of recent acute care experience.
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License.
- At minimum 12 hours of in‑service training each 12‑month period for home health aides.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Clinical background within a Cardiology setting.
- Experience in Home Health, Hospice, or Homecare.
- Cardiology Team – Stroobants
: 1 year experience as CNA, clinical background in Cardiology preferred, valid driver’s license; full travel expected. - Home Health
: 1 year experience as CNA, valid driver’s license, full travel expected, plus mandatory in‑service training. - Hospice
: 1 year experience as CNA, valid driver’s license, full travel expected, experience in Hospice or Homecare preferred.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested. Job specification can be modified or updated at any time.
Salary Range$17.19 - $24.93 per hour
