Position: Security Services Officer I

Security Services Officer for Liberty University must work independently and with little supervision, possess strong decision‑making skills, maintain an even temperament, and be willing to work assigned shifts and overtime. The Officer will be primarily assigned to a specific building on campus properties and be the first responder to any incident in their area, completing non‑criminal reports and performing other duties as directed by LUPD Command Staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Respond to dispatched calls for service.
  • Patrol assigned building.
  • Assist interviews of suspects, witnesses or victims under supervisory approval.
  • Complete detailed incident reports on all incidents.
  • Provide public services such as assisting motorists.
  • Assist with special events, crowd control, traffic control, VIP security and escort money deposits.
  • Respond to maintenance calls (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire alarms) to determine if personnel need to be contacted.
  • Lock and unlock buildings, classrooms and other areas as needed.
  • Attend and complete basic armed security training.
  • Report unsafe conditions on campus streets and facilities belonging to University, Liberty Christian Academy and Thomas Road Baptist Church.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Successfully complete the hiring process (application, background check, oral review board, doctor’s physical, drug testing).
  • Virginia Armed Security Officer certification within 1 year of employment.
  • No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.
  • Pass drug screen upon hire and periodic random drug tests to maintain employment.
  • Excellent written, verbal and problem‑solving skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor when dealing with the public.
  • Knowledgeable in emergency incident response and able to perform simulated training successfully.
  • Effective communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to reason, analyze information, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems.
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance.
