Campus Safety Officers (CSOs) create and maintain a safe environment for the Randolph College community. They interact with students, faculty, staff, guests and non‑community members, conduct patrols, respond to emergencies, enforce rules, provide safety escorts, and monitor key building systems to mitigate risk. CSOs are essential employees in a 24‑hour, seven‑day operation.
Essential Functions- Promote positive community relations in demeanor and appearance.
- Exercise sound, independent judgment in stressful situations.
- Complete clear and accurate electronic incident reports of crimes, incidents, suspicious activity or maintenance issues.
- Maintain a daily activity report for each shift noting unusual incidents and maintenance problems.
- Act as Campus Security Authority and Mandated Reporter on matters of sexual misconduct.
- Communicate via two‑way radio, base station, or other methods with coworkers, communications operators and college employees.
- Serve as liaison between Randolph College and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Tour and complete safety and security checks of assigned buildings and grounds; coordinate maintenance for urgent repairs.
- Respond immediately to fire alarms; conduct evacuations and reset alarms.
- Inspect fire‑fighting and safety protection equipment, interior and exterior lighting per applicable codes.
- Respond to perimeter intrusion alarms.
- Assist the Division of Student Affairs with scheduled fire drills and personal safety education programs.
- Pickup and deliver U.S. Postal Service mail daily, deliver to campus mailroom.
- Provide transportation, delivery and pickup of monies and media for the Business Office or Institutional Advancement Division.
- Provide off‑duty security for college events as needed.
- Staff the college’s Reception and Information Desk when required.
- Design, deliver and/or transmit emergency notifications or warnings during urgent conditions.
- Tours parking areas, issues citations, applies boot immobilization devices, and initiates towing as necessary.
- Provide safety escort services by foot or vehicle for students, employees or guests.
- Provide access to on/off campus buildings when requested and verify its appropriateness.
- Provide First Aid, CPR and AED rescue techniques when needed.
- Maintain personal and issued equipment in serviceable condition.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned.

- Confidence to work alone and collaboratively.
Requires extensive walking and movement over varied terrain and surfaces, inclines and declines, stairs; may work in low light conditions using a flashlight; all weather conditions.
Physical RequirementsFull range of body motion, including reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking; good vision and hearing; ability to lift or carry items up to 50pounds occasionally.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license (or ability to obtain upon employment) and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters.
- Completion of mandatory field training within 90days of employment.
- Completion of Department of Criminal Justice Services and F.E.M.A. certifications within 180days.
- Police fingerprint‑based background check.
- Desire to learn about TitleIX, campus sexual misconduct and mandated reporting.
- Previous experience in safety, security, law enforcement or related fields is desirable but not required; extensive on‑the‑job training provided.
