Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Fleet Technician III is responsible, under general supervision, for performing skilled repairs and maintenance on automobiles, light and heavy duty equipment and light/medium/heavy duty trucks; and performs related duties as required. The job will involve supervisory duties, in the absence of the Shop Manager, of the fellow employees to include but not limited to:
Assigning of Work, Issuing Parts, Inventory, Prioritizing day to day activities, verifying repairs, etc. The technician is responsible for providing their own tools to complete repairs and maintenance assigned. Maybe required to respond to emergency calls as needed for the best interest of the University. The technician is to produce work that meets the high standards of the Transportation Department and to assist in accomplishing the mission of Liberty University.
Complaint, Cause, Correction.
A high school diploma and 9 years' experience in the repair of automotive equipment in conjunction with an apprenticeship required. State inspector's license and at least 8 ASE certifications required. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in fleet maintenance, inspection and repair practices; occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair; safe operation of vehicle/equipment repair and maintenance tools.
Proficient in modern methods, equipment, materials, and tools used in repairing automobiles, light trucks, and other gas-powered equipment. MIG and acetylene welding skill is preferred.
Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both routine and complex nature. Regularly required to lift 50+ pounds. Visits to campus sites, maintenance shops, and associated vendors may be required. Work may be conducted on site of asset failure or at the Transportation Shop.
This may include frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, handling, grasping, and the ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects.
