The Landscape Irrigation Supervisor is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and all related components, including irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control valves, valves, and pumps. The role requires knowledge and ability to operate light and heavy‑duty vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance.

Other responsibilities include hand‑finishes grading, application of seed, straw or sod, planting, weeding, digging, trimming edging, litter pick‑up, spreading topsoil and other materials, and specialized care of landscape plants. The supervisor also assists in landscaping and hardscaping, performs general lawn maintenance, seasonal lawn preparation, and spring/fall clean‑up as needed. Additional support for asphalt, brick or stonework, operating power equipment and hand tools, as well as assisting with field renovations, grading and site clean‑up tasks, is required.

The position works independently and exercises good judgment and discretion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, or emergencies, including clean‑up after severe weather incidents. Perform snow removal activities as assigned (e.g., shoveling, salting).
  • Report to work on time and perform duties assigned by the Landscape Manager and/or Director of the Grounds Department.
  • Supervise and manage the Landscape crew.
  • Ensure each employee receives appropriate training for each assigned task.
  • Wear and enforce use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing job duties and operating related equipment (protective eyewear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel‑toed shoes, respirators/masks, reflective vests, sunscreen).
  • Wear a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts.
  • Provide seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems such as system charging and draining.
  • Have basic knowledge of computers and communication cable hookups used in the operation of the irrigation system.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering needed materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
  • Move materials and perform landscaping and hardscaping duties.
  • Hand‑finish grading and apply seed, straw or sod.
  • Apply chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemical applicator.
  • Maintain equipment and notify the Landscape Supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Participate in and conduct all job‑site safety briefings with crew members.
  • Ensure all employees use required personal protective equipment.
  • Instruct employees on proper job‑site safety procedures.
  • Ensure all installation work meets industry and company standards.
  • Ensure all equipment safety and maintenance procedures are followed.
  • Perform administrative functions pertaining to crew management.
  • Interact with clientele to ensure job satisfaction in a polite and professional manner.
  • Supervise all crew members during performance of assigned work.
  • Lead by example.
  • Report to the designated location on time each day; be punctual and dependable.
  • Follow direction from the Manager.
  • Direct activities on job sites, including coordinating workflow and operating a variety of machinery.
  • Proficient in light and heavy‑duty equipment and vehicles, including backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools, front‑end loaders, mini‑excavators, skid‑steer machinery with various attachments, and other construction equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in installing a variety of irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, materials, and methods of irrigation system design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Operate power equipment and hand tools to install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and related components (irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control panels, valves, pumps, etc.).
  • Possibly participate in design or modification of new or existing systems.
  • Ensure all projects are completed, inspected, and secured; remove all blockades, ropes, and tape.
  • Collaborate with the entire landscaping/grounds teams on all phases of grounds maintenance.
