Summer temp | Renovations Tech I

The Temp Skilled Trades Worker is responsible for performing askilled repair, preventative maintenance and maintenance tasks inone or more specialized trades or areas, such as Panting, plumbing,electrical, and HVAC. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion sis essential to this job.

• As Essential Personnel; you are expected to be available in theevent of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergenciesincluding clean up required because of severe weather incidents.
  
  Maintenance employees are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work scheduled andunscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. Performs snow removalactivities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.
• Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices and procedures of the specific skilled (ex: carpentry, painting,electrical, plumbing, and HVAC ) Trade.
• Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Assists other maintenance technicians, lead technicians and supervisors as needed.
• Receives and completes work orders.
• Must keep accurate and up-to-date records of work performed and materials used in accordance with department standards.
• Reads and interprets written directions, manuals, and construction drawings.
• Maintains and repairs all buildings and facilities includingcarpentry, decorating, hanging of display and whiteboards, roofing,drywall, masonry, painting, plumbing, fire alarms, fire sprinklers,or any combination of trades.
• Must provide own hand tools to perform and completetrade-related tasks.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies,processes, products, services, and leading industry performancebenchmarks.
• Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

High School Diploma or Equivalent. Applicants must have 1+ years of experience in a specific skilled trade (ex: carpentry, painting,electrical, plumbing, and HVAC ) and/or journey or mastercertification. Must be able to understand and follow directions,and work under limited Supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Cleanand professional appearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented.self-motivated,

diligent, and trustworthy, and possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills. Mustbe able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of the General Maintenance trade in a typical Virginia Climate. This positionmight require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or bewilling and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, andwork from various aerial lifts and heights.
