Position Overview:

As our Field Operations Production Technician 3, you will perform highly technical work in both radiological and industrial environments. This position requires sound radiological work practices, strong trade knowledge and skills, and strict compliance with applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

You will support a broad range of projects, including demolition and decontamination (D&D), new equipment and system installations, modifications, and repairs in various industrial settings. You will work with specialized equipment and tools while applying strong problem-solving skills and collaborating with other members of the project team.

Safety is a critical component of this role. You will be expected to follow established safety protocols, radiological controls, procedures, and regulations while performing work that can have significant implications for personal and public health and safety.

On-site at NOG-L Mt. Athos Site in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Your Day to Day as a Field Operations Production Technician 3:

Report to the Project Manager and Field Operations Manager.
Prepare the work site for daily activities, including staging the materials, tools, and equipment required to perform assigned tasks.
Perform assigned daily tasks using engineering procedures, engineering drawings, and applicable safety procedures and Job Hazard Analyses under the direction of the Field Operations Manager and Field Operations Supervisor.
Perform project activities using mechanical and electrical trade skills, including new installations, modifications, and repairs of equipment, systems, buildings, and structures.
Perform radiological work using sound radiological work control practices while adhering to applicable policies and procedures. Work may include equipment removal, decontamination of contaminated equipment, equipment and facility modifications, and radiological waste disposal.
Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for protection from hazards associated with assigned tasks. PPE may include anti-contamination clothing, safety glasses, safety shoes, goggles, face shields, hard hats, safety gloves, safety harnesses, and respirators.
Comply with applicable health and safety requirements while performing all assigned tasks.
Maintain a productive and safe pace of work to complete assigned activities within established time constraints.
Obtain and maintain all certifications and qualifications required for the position.
Perform field walk-downs to support project estimates, readiness reviews, project closeout, and lessons learned, as directed by the Field Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Minimum A.S. degree in technical field + 4 years of experience, or minimum 8 years of relevant experience
Trade experience in at least one of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, drawings, and procedures.
Ability to build mechanical and/or electrical systems and components using drawings and detailed work instructions.
Experience using basic hand tools, including power and manual tools.
Ability to interact with peers in a positive and collaborative manner.
Must successfully complete applicable BWXT pre-employment requirements, including a security background check and drug screening, and maintain applicable employment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicable military experience.
Experience across multiple trades, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and/or plumbing.
Experience operating equipment such as forklifts, material lifts, aerial lifts, personnel lifts, and scissor lifts.

Physical Abilities:

Ability to work at heights and from ladders, scaffolds, and personnel lifts.
Ability to stand throughout a 10-hour shift and generally remain on your feet while working in the work area.
Ability to frequently stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, and kneel.
Ability to frequently push and pull.
Ability to frequently climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to maintain balance while performing assigned work.
Ability to regularly use hands to operate tools and controls.
Ability to frequently move and lift materials and equipment of varying sizes and weights up to and including 50 pounds.
