Caseworker for Juvenile Services Department

The City of Lynchburg is hiring for a Caseworker for the Juvenile Services Department.

Essential duties and responsibilities include providing regularly scheduled individual counseling, coordinating and conducting treatment plan meetings, monitoring progress on plans, making decisions and exercising judgment in program policies, documenting casework services, assisting and counseling direct care treatment staff, meeting with adolescents and their families, coordinating educational and vocational opportunities, meeting and conferring with legal, medical, school, court and other professionals, performing tasks to maintain compliance with State and Federal guidelines, coordinating and transporting adolescents, testifying in court, responding to emergencies, monitoring compliance with standards, administering first aid and CPR, intervening and mediating disputes, participating on family assessment planning teams, assisting subordinate staff, conducting staff meetings, participating in admissions and releases, accompanying detainees to professional's office or hospital, requesting petitions to be filed, reviewing referrals and conducting admissions, supervising adolescents, assisting in the screening, interviewing, selection, training, supervision and scheduling of relief workers and other staff, assisting in the training of student interns and volunteers, overseeing all aspects of the program, working a flex schedule, fostering adolescent's relationship with appropriate mentor, providing follow-up and after care services, performing responsible professional casework, conducting intake/orientation meetings, meeting individually with each participant, conducting weekly random curfew checks, responding immediately when notified of a participant's violation, recommending further action, reviewing court service files, encouraging participants to expand their repertoire of legal leisure activities, providing intense services and case management, monitoring progress and adherence, providing crisis intervention, maintaining compliance with those youth on electronic monitoring, making face to face contacts, conducting random curfew checks, maintaining schedules for those youth on electronic monitoring, participating in Family Assessment and Planning Team, responding to emergencies, assisting supervisor in oversight of subordinate program staff.

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field, and two years related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Valid State Driver's License required and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. Prior to employment must have Criminal Record Check and reference checks, driving record check completed, and Child Protective Services check. Prior to onset of employment must have tuberculin and drug screen as part of physical examination. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.

May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
