Caseworker for the Juvenile Services Department
The City of Lynchburg is hiring for a Caseworker for the Juvenile Services Department. Essential duties and responsibilities include providing regularly scheduled individual counseling, coordinating and conducting treatment plan meetings, interpreting and implementing program policies, documenting casework services, assisting and counseling direct care treatment staff, meeting with adolescents and their families to monitor behaviors, coordinating educational and vocational opportunities, performing tasks required to maintain compliance with state and federal guidelines, coordinating and transporting adolescents to medical appointments, testifying in court, responding to emergencies, monitoring compliance with department standards, administering first aid and CPR, intervening and mediating disputes, and participating on family assessment planning teams.
When assigned to the Detention Home, duties include assisting subordinate staff with management of difficult detainees, participating in admissions and releases, conducting staff meetings, and serving as PREA Coordinator.
When assigned to Day Services, duties include reviewing referrals and conducting admissions, supervising adolescents, assisting in the screening, interviewing, selection, training, supervision and scheduling of relief workers, assisting in the training of student interns and volunteers, and overseeing all aspects of the program in the absence of the Superintendent.
When assigned to Residential Treatment Programs, duties include working a flex schedule, fostering relationships with mentors, providing follow-up and after care services, and completing assigned supplemental duties.
When assigned to Outreach Detention, duties include performing responsible professional casework, conducting intake/orientation meetings, meeting with participants and families, conducting random curfew checks, responding to violations, recommending further action, reviewing court service files, and encouraging legal leisure activities.
When assigned to Community Outreach, duties include providing intense services and case management, monitoring progress, providing crisis intervention, maintaining compliance with electronic monitoring, making face to face contacts, conducting random curfew checks, maintaining schedules, participating in Family Assessment and Planning Team, responding to emergencies, and assisting supervisor in oversight of subordinate program staff.
Additional duties may include participating in special work teams, supervising residents, completing statistical reports, conducting staff training, and other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens.
Supervisory responsibilities include assisting supervisor in oversight of subordinate program staff.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field, and two years related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Valid State Driver's License required and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. Prior to employment, must have Criminal Record Check, reference checks, driving record check, and Child Protective Services check.
Prior to onset of employment, must have tuberculin and drug screen as part of physical examination. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
