Job OverviewYou will serve as an Engineering Data Scientist in the Nuclear Operations Group (NOG‑L) in Lynchburg. The role combines manufacturing experience with data science to support the design, production, and quality of nuclear components and processes.
Responsibilities- Apply manufacturing and technical knowledge to develop data structures and standards that support machine learning initiatives.
- Perform advanced AI projects while ensuring protection of mission‑critical systems.
- Deploy a range of machine‑learning models for root‑cause analysis and predictive quality.
- Collaborate with engineers across NOG‑L product lines to translate manufacturing and inspection challenges into data‑science solutions.
- Maintain continuous interaction with internal customers to manage expectations and deliver results.
- Implement large‑language‑model tools to improve engineering and administrative productivity.
- Develop or apply agentic AI, machine‑learning, deep‑learning, and visualization techniques, including analytics, 3‑D simulation, and data modeling.
- Build sensor platforms and image‑processing pipelines for development or production processes.
- Propose new data‑science projects to secure customer funding.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field with coursework in data science, machine learning or AI.
- At least two years of manufacturing and/or data‑science experience (an advanced degree may substitute).
- Strong coding skills in C++, Python, R or similar.
- Willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
- Experience with simulation or design tools is a plus; image‑processing with OpenCV, Tensor Flow or similar packages is a plus.
- Demonstrable teamwork, problem‑solving and communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
- Expertise in NOG‑L product lines.
- Experience in statistical analysis, signal processing and/or computer vision strongly desired.

$76,000 - $119,000 per year (base salary). Total compensation may include additional elements such as annual incentive, and benefits.
