* Hybrid in-office would be required if you reside within 50 miles of our Richmond or Lynchburg, VA office. Required in-office days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.YOUR ROLEAs a Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the design, development, implementation, and support of technology solutions that are foundational to the world-class service our customers expect and deserve.

Working collaboratively with business and technology teams, you'll help deliver innovative, secure, and reliable software solutions while continuing to grow your technical expertise in modern software engineering practices.

What you will be doing

Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services that support critical business processes.

Support production applications by investigating incidents, resolving defects, and implementing enhancements to improve system reliability and user experience.

Translate business requirements and user stories into scalable, maintainable software solutions.

Participate in application design discussions and contribute to technical solution recommendations.

Develop and support RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrations with internal and external systems.

Troubleshoot application defects, performance issues, and production incidents while identifying root causes and implementing solutions.

Create and maintain technical documentation, process flows, and system design artifacts.

Participate in code reviews and contribute to the adoption of software engineering best practices and coding standards.

Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, QA engineers, and infrastructure teams to deliver technology solutions.

Contribute to application modernization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Utilize approved AI-assisted development tools such as Git Hub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot to improve developer productivity, accelerate software delivery, enhance code quality, and support testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities.

Apply engineering judgment to validate, test, secure, and maintain AI-generated code and recommendations.
