Position: Inventory Control Tech I

While working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Inventory Control Technician I is responsible for receiving, stocking, ordering, and distributing equipment, materials, and supplies within the Maintenance Department. This includes organizing, maintaining neat and clean storage facilities to provide a safe working environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Act as essential personnel, available during school closings, delays, shutdowns, emergencies, and severe weather incidents, including snow removal activities such as shoveling and salting. Required to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as needed.
  • Report to work at the required time and perform duties assigned by the Supervisor and Upper Management.
  • Follow daily and weekly work assignments.
  • Enter data into a computerized inventory system, including receiving, storing, distributing supplies and materials, purging items, and maintaining accurate inventory balances; also take inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Perform tasks of an Inventory Control Technician I and related work in the operation and maintenance of a storage room.
  • Keep the Supervisor informed of stock on hand and shortages.
  • Receive delivered items and notify other departments of items received for their area.
  • Organize inventory and periodically check remaining stock.
  • Label items in the storage facility and assist other technicians in locating received items or items in storage.
  • Verify the count of incoming material with invoices and purchase orders, ensuring inventory is accurate and properly placed.
  • Fulfill supply and material requests for Field Personnel.
  • Deliver supplies as needed.
  • Process delivery tickets.
  • Maintain the database and keep records current.
  • Coordinate and schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Assist customers and other team members.
  • Keep storage facilities clean and dispose of waste and garbage in proper containers to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Deliver materials to other areas within the FMD.
  • Operate and maneuver equipment, machinery, and tools such as a computer, vehicle, forklift, or other materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Utilize reference data such as billings, purchase orders, operating instructions, schedules, and records.
  • Perform basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques for job duties, including lifting and climbing.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and know when and how to use it; use required PPE such as steel‑toe boots, harness, hard hat, gloves, eye protection.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Stay abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and industry performance benchmarks.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
    • High school degree or GED.
    • 1+ year of related experience in record keeping, including inventory control with a computerized system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Well‑developed communication skills.
    • Current and valid driver’s license with a reputable driving record; proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance.
    • Ability to understand and follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
    • Capability to work well with the public, co‑workers, and maintain a positive attitude.
    • Exceptional self‑management and organization/ planning skills.
    • Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals and willingness to grow and improve.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and strong computer skills.
    • Clean and professional appearance; courteous, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, diligent, trustworthy.
    • Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds in a typical Virginia climate.
    • Willingness to obtain certifications; certifications earned while employed will be reimbursed for the first 12 months after voluntary termination.
