- Follows lesson plans: Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent classroom teacher to ensure continuity of education.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom: Create an organized and welcoming classroom environment.
- Ensures student supervision: Never leave students unattended in the classroom.
- Keeps students safe and engaged: Keep students engaged in the learning process and maintain a safe environment.
- Monitors student progress: Keep a close eye on students' progress and assist where needed.
- Maintains existing classroom management and discipline procedures: Consistency with existing classroom management and discipline procedures is crucial.
- Understands school policy and procedures: Knowledge of school policies and procedures helps maintain order and safety.
- Provides written feedback: Offer feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding the day's activities and student behavior.
- Maintains accurate attendance records: Keep accurate records of student attendance.
- Criminal record check: Must have a clean criminal record that allows for public school employment, verified through FBI and BCI background checks dated within 365 days of hire.
- Bachelor's Degree: Hold at least a Bachelor's Degree in any field.
- Professional references: Provide three professional references.
- Teaching License: Either obtain an Ohio Department of Education Substitute Teacher License or possess a Teaching License.
- Training: Complete Sub Skills Online training (if applicable contingent after hire) and submit all mandatory professional development modules and activities using Public School Works as a platform.
- Effective communication: Communicate accurately and effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Punctuality: Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual.
- Professional conduct: Adhere to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
- Enrollment in State Teachers Retirement System (STRS): Enjoy the benefits of participating in the state's retirement system.
- No nights, weekends, or holidays: Substitute teaching typically offers a schedule that aligns with regular school hours, providing a good work‑life balance.
