The Senior Estimator demonstrates expertise by preparing deliverables such as estimates for assigned projects of all sizes and complexity during the various stages of design, from conceptual through to construction documents, procurement advice, controls, or construction administration advice during construction, either directly or through management of team members.

The position is primarily work‑from‑home with occasional travel to various client sites on the East Coast. The Senior Estimator assists the Associate Director or Director in the daily supervision of the Cost & Commercial Management team, builds business development skills, and leads client relationships with minimal supervision. The role also includes delivering client proposals to meet company profitability targets.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review, interpret, and accurately estimate the scope of assigned work as described in the project documents.
  • Develop and nurture subcontractor, vendor, and client relationships.
  • Lead client accounts and review contracts, participating in contract negotiation.
  • Prepare subcontractor analysis sheets for the assigned scope of work.
  • Evaluate changes and subcontractor change‑order estimates, providing expertise in all phases of construction work.
  • Perform continuous cost management and manage contract administration at the project level.
  • Partner with the management team to develop new customers and grow the existing customer base.
  • Support senior management by providing needed reports and responding to inquiries for information.
  • Mentor associate‑level cost and commercial managers.
  • Prepare project plans and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain attendance during normal business hours.

  • Analyze, compare, and interpret detailed but sometimes poorly defined information.
  • Understand construction technology, economics of construction, construction delivery methodologies, local tax and insurance requirements as they impact costs, and general conditions and requirements at a detailed level.
  • Understand construction law and applicable measurement methods, including parametric, top‑down, and bottom‑up estimates.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Cumming’s services and how the cost management team fits into projects.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a responsive manner.
  • Multi‑task, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.
  • Demonstrate consistent management of overall assigned projects beyond task completion.
  • Hold a professional qualification relative to the role.
Preferred

Education and Experience

Education:

BS in Construction, Cost Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.

Experience:

6 to 10 years in Cost Management or Quantity Surveying with professional accreditation. Biotechnology or Life Science experience is strongly preferred.
