Job Description

General Music Teacher
- Middle School

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement standards‑based General Music lessons with clear objectives.
  • Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio‑economic levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students, including modifications for Special Education and English Learner Education.
  • Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to measure student progress toward mastery of grade‑level standards and modify instruction.
  • Create a motivating, stimulating, safe, and supportive learning environment.
  • Recruit choral members.
  • Adapt music lessons for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups.
  • Develop and maintain pupil‑teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning.
  • Maintain a growth mindset.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
  • Participate in school‑wide and department‑wide professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson, and assessment design, and establish effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Use computers and other technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom.
  • Rehearse with students and lead various music performances for the school community.
  • Participate in music department learning opportunities and enhance communication skills.
Qualifications
  • Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Music:
    Vocal/Instrumental/General – All Levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Urban experience preferred.
Terms of Employment
  • As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and Lynn Teachers Union.
  • 180 days per year.
