Job Description

Special Education Teacher SGL‑PreK (Full Day) – Small Group Learning PreK

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required;
    Master's Degree preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts license in Moderate Disabilities, PreK‑2, PreK‑8 and Severe Disabilities, All Levels
  • SEI Endorsement
  • Additional content area licensure encouraged
  • Understanding of institutional and structural racism and bias, and its impact on underserved communities
  • Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience in an urban school environment preferred
  • Ability to meet Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Experience working with emotionally impaired or intellectually impaired students desirable; willingness to attend related professional development
  • U.S. citizenship, residency, or valid work visa required
Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
  • Meet and instruct assigned students at scheduled locations and times.
  • Design a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Provide culturally responsive instruction and clear learning goals.
  • Deliver small‑group instruction to students with moderate to severe cognitive delays.
  • Write and implement IEP goals and objectives; provide timely progress reports.
  • Provide accommodations for learning and testing as required.
  • Collaborate with school staff to address student needs for modifications.
  • Use innovative instructional strategies and technology to enhance learning.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for students of all ages and interests.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for achievement and behavior.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum standards and establish clear objectives.
  • Implement district mission, philosophy, and instructional standards.
  • Assess and document student accomplishments regularly.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records in compliance with law and policy.
  • Support administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
  • Be available for student and parent support outside instructional hours when required.
  • Continuously improve professional competence related to the assignment.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Build cooperative relationships with colleagues and the community.
  • Communicate progress and behavior to students, parents, and staff.
  • Promote equity and diversity, implementing strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second‑language learners.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
  • Engage families and community members to support equitable education.
  • Use curricula that reflect diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Support students with disabilities in general education settings.
  • Differentiate learning for second‑language learners.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment
  • As negotiated with the Lynn School Committee and Lynn Teachers Union.
  • 180 days per year.
  • Salary is determined by the district salary tables.
