The Integrated PreK classroom consists of fifteen students from ages three to five, including seven with disabilities and eight typically developing peers. The classroom teacher will implement the Early Childhood Curriculum while providing accommodations and incorporating recommendations from related service providers.
Qualifications- Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Moderate Disabilities, Pre‑K‑2, or Pre‑K‑8.
- Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - SEI Endorsement.
- Additional content‑area licensure encouraged.
- Understanding of institutional and structural racism, bias, and their impact on underserved communities.
- Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents, and advocates to solve problems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience in an urban setting preferred.
- Ability to meet the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
- Experience working with emotionally impaired or intellectually impaired students is highly desirable; willingness to attend training on Positive Behavior Strategies for Emotionally Impaired Students.
- Plan and assess curriculum effectively.
- Attend assigned classroom locations and times.
- Design a program of study responsive to individual student needs.
- Deliver instruction using culturally responsive teaching and clear learning goals.
- Provide small‑group instruction to students with moderate to severe cognitive delays.
- Write and implement goals and objectives aligned with students’ IEPs, and report progress regularly.
- Provide accommodations for learning and testing as needed.
- Collaborate with other staff to support student needs and modifications.
- Use innovative instructional strategies and technology to enhance learning.
- Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate for student maturity and interests.
- Promote high academic and behavioral standards.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum standards and establish clear objectives.
- Implement district mission and instructional standards.
- Assess and document student accomplishments and provide reports as required.
- Identify learning problems and seek assistance from district specialists.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules, and establish classroom rules fairly.
