Qualifications- Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in
Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8 or 5 - 12;
Severe Disabilities, All Levels - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university;
Master’s Degree preferred. - SEI Endorsement as applicable
- Additional content area licensure is encouraged
- Licensure requirements and validity are subject to change at the discretion of DESE
- Strong district lens regarding EL, curriculum, and equity
- Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations
- Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience in urban district/setting preferred
- Understanding of institutional racism, bias, and their impact on underserved communities
- Ability to meet the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
- Responsible for effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction
- Instruct assigned students at the locations and times designated
- Plan a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Provide effective instruction and culturally responsive teaching with clear goals and appropriate questioning techniques
- Provide small-group instruction for students with moderate to severe cognitive delays to support progress in the general curriculum
- Write and implement goals and objectives aligned with student IEPs and provide progress reports
- Provide accommodations for learning and testing when required
- Collaborate with staff to respond to student needs for modification
- Use innovative instructional strategies and technologies to increase learning
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning
- Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior
- Guide learning toward curriculum standards and establish clear objectives for lessons and projects
- Implement the district's mission and instructional standards
- Assess and document student progress and provide regular reports
- Document learning problems and seek district specialist assistance as needed
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy
- Support administration in policy enforcement and establish classroom rules
- Make yourself available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required
- Strive to maintain professional competence
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate with others
- Maintain open communication with students, colleagues, and parents about academic and behavioral progress
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity in instruction and supports for students with special needs and ELL students
- Maintain a safe, nurturing learning environment
- Engage with families and community to support collaborative learning and equity
- Use curricula reflecting diverse backgrounds
- Support students with disabilities in general education settings
- Differentiate learning for second language learners
- Performance of other duties as assigned
