QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
- One to two years experience in a child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting
- Current CPR/AED certification by American Heart Association or Red Cross
- Ability to provide care and safety to a student with Type I Diabetes
- Ability to provide emergency care/assessment
- Knowledge of professional and legal requirements
- Human relations skills
- Organizational/administrative skills
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to effectively use local resources
- Basic computer skills including data entry and word-processing
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide 1:1 care to student/s with special health care needs
- Ride bus with student/s before and after school
- Ensure student safety at all times
- Follow medication/treatment plan
- Assess and treat illness, manage chronic disease
- Provide emergency care/assessment
- Implement plan of care per individualized health care plan or emergency action plan
- Administer medications and perform treatments or nursing procedures
- Assist with ADLs and hygiene care if needed
- Work collaboratively with the nursing team and school staff
- Communicate and collaborate with parents regularly
- Follow school policies and procedures
- Maintain medical records and documents daily
- Assist or cover at LPS schools as assigned by nursing administration
- Any other responsibilities assigned by school nurse/nursing administration
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Reports to Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing for the Lynn Public Schools
- Follows school policies and procedures
- Documents on student/s at minimum once a day
REPORTS TO:
Director of School Nurses
SALARY
- LPN $51,500-$57,099
- RN with Associates $57,680-$63,951
- RN with Bachelors $55,971-$87,803
HOURS
- Arrive at student's residence in Lynn to meet and ride bus with student at 7:45am
- Board bus with student at end of school day at 2:55pm (hourly stipend rate $55/hr from 2:55-arrival at student's home)
- 1st Wednesday of each month is early dismissal at 11:40am (nurse will be assigned to assist/cover at LPS school for remainder of day and until 2:45pm)
- If student is absent, nurse will be assigned to assist or cover at LPS school
- ESY: 6 weeks on Mondays-Thursdays (hourly stipend rate per nurse contract)
An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment physical, including a drug test, National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC) and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).
All MUST be completed PRIOR to the start of employment.
