Qualifications:
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in the specific subject area(s):
    Math 5-12 and Academic Administrator, Superisor/Director - Core (Math)
  • SEI Endorsement
  • Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of five years' successful teaching experience, of which at least two years shall have been in secondary Math
  • Education, training, and experience should contain evidence of leadership qualities.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children in order to effectively problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
  • Experience in urban district/setting preferred
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Organizes and implements the Math Program in grades 6-8.
  • Establishes department curriculum objectives and develops a plan for the implementation and evaluation of these objectives for grades 6-8.
  • Assists in the screening, training, and assignment of department personnel.
  • Assists department teachers in the handling of day-to-day problems of instruction and is a resource person for department teachers on curriculum and instructional consensus.
  • Responsible for the ordering, inventorying, and distribution of all departmental instructional materials.
  • Evaluates departmental personnel in accordance with School Committee policy.
  • Makes recommendations to the Principal regarding department personnel and advises the Principal on the department's budgetary needs.
  • Makes classroom visitation of department personnel when necessary and provides follow-up consultation.
  • Reviews teacher lesson plans.
  • Develops and maintains a department library.
  • Provides orientation and in-service training programs for department personnel.
  • Attends relevant school, district, and professional meetings.
  • Meets with other department heads to promote interdisciplinary programs.
  • Assists in identifying and utilizing community resources for the department program.
  • Implements an ongoing program of curriculum evaluation.
  • Provides the Principal or his/her designee with course outlines for all department offerings.
  • Is responsible for the Math department programs.
  • Assists the Principal in interpreting grading policies, promotional policies, and the district's instructional program to parents and the community.
