Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for operating all boilers and boiler auxiliaries in the power plant, supporting boiler load and distribution, maintaining operating conditions, monitoring alarm panels, testing water characteristics, and performing related duties to maintain proper water treatment. The role also includes compliance with all state regulations, record keeping, and emergency response as directed by the Power Plant Engineer.

- Support the organization and determination of boiler load and load distribution.
- Report operating conditions and operate under the direction of the Power Plant Engineer.
- Maintain proper operating conditions, boiler pressure, steam temperature, water levels, and auxiliary power plant equipment.
- Take required action in emergencies, report unsafe conditions, and keep the area clean.
- Monitor the alarm panel and take actions to alarms or notify appropriate personnel.
- Test water for characteristics such as sulfate, alkalinity, phosphate, solids, and oxygen.
- Prepare records, record data, and make necessary corrections to control water condition.
- Perform related duties to maintain proper water treatment.
- Report unusual or unsafe conditions and take action when needed or notify appropriate personnel.
- Comply with all state regulations regarding boiler/turbine operation and complete required state records and logs.
- Maintain company records and logs for all phases of power plant operation and maintenance requests.
- Be knowledgeable of all power plant systems, including steam and water lines, condensate lines, surge tank lines, compressed air lines, and other lines pertinent to facility operation.
- Wear proper PPE and keep assigned areas clean while communicating with Power Plant Operators and Engineers.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Work rotating shift; 4/10 hour days with additional weekly overtime available.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education (GED).
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2nd Class Firemen's license.
- Wear proper PPE for work being performed.
- Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts.
- Willingness to work in areas with elevated heat and noise.
- Ability to lift, move, and manipulate fixtures and component hardware up to 40 lbs (with or without reasonable accommodations).
- Ability to work in confined areas, work off ladders, platforms, and heights.
- Experience as an operating engineer.
- Experience in the operation of oil and gas–fired high‑pressure boilers, water softeners, air compressors, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Experience with computers, applications, and keyboarding.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety rules in an industrial setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems.
The pay for this position is $23.50 per hour and the position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary.
