* POSITION SUMMARY:
** The Special Waste Analyst ES works closely with internal and external customers to assure Republic Services' facilities remain in compliance with waste acceptance regulations and company standards. The Special Waste Analyst works closely with Customer Service, Customers/Generators, operations and the sales organization to ensure approval compliance in regards to permit(s) and characterization of wastes. Independently certifying that the Company receives and processes waste in a safe and compliant manner and secures final disposal facility approvals, all while maximizing profitability and maintaining corporate, Area and site goals.
** PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* + Assures Republic Services facilities do not accept wastes (1) that are not permitted at the site(s), as it relates to Federal, State, or local regulations, (2) that are outside of the scope of the site's operating permit, (3) create treatment/handling challenges or (4) that pose a threat to human health or the environment.
+ Performs technical reviews of environmental data, including customer initiated Generator Waste Profile Sheets, analytical laboratory reports and/or equivalents, lab pack inventory forms and safety data sheets.
+ Maintains current knowledge and tracks on federal, state and local regulations pertaining to hazardous and solid waste.
+ Provides support to sales, operations personnel and customers on technical and regulatory issues related to the acceptance of waste (exempted, hazardous, and/or non hazardous). Including but not limited to, regulatory interpretation, manifest discrepancy, 3rd party outbounding, preliminary quotes, onsite generated waste and audits.
+ Identifies potential waste stream problems and directs such waste streams to proper departments for review and collaboration.
+ Coordinates with Strategic Sourcing and/or operations to arrange third party vendor shipments to alternate TSDFs.
+ Limited travel is required.
+ Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

* QUALIFICATIONS:
*
* + Solid waste, industrial, and/or hazardous waste regulations and industry experience with regulations.
+ Experience in waste characterization principles and practices as well as waste processing protocols.
+ Effective at communicating, internally and externally. Strong ability to collaborate, listen and manage relationships.
+ Ability to understand a particular situation from the perspective of different business units (regulatory, operations, financial, etc)
+ Working knowledge of chemical compounds required, strong knowledge of chemistry.
+ Ability to analyze environmental laboratory data and compare data to Federal, State, and/or landfill solid waste permit acceptance standards.
+ Knowledgeable of current industrial safety practices and industrial hygiene as it relates to hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal operations.
+ Grasps concepts quickly, adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.
+ Works well in a team-oriented environment.

* MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
*
* + Five (5) years of work experience in an environmental engineering, chemistry or related field.
+ Knowledge of State and Federal Hazardous and Solid Waste Regulations as it relates to DOT, RCRA and/or TSCA regulations.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience working with environmental laboratory data.
