Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, improving, and supporting manufacturing systems that enable safe, efficient, and high‑quality production operations. This role connects manufacturing processes, digital tools, equipment, data systems, and cross‑functional teams to improve operational performance, reduce waste, and support business goals across safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The work will include, and is not limited to, combustors and structures for defense engine.
Roles and Responsibilities- Develop, test, implement, and maintain CNC post processors to support safe, accurate, and efficient machine tool operation.
- Translate CAM output into optimized machine‑specific NC code for CNC mills, lathes, mill‑turns, and multi‑axis equipment.
- Configure and refine post processors to align with machine kinematics, controller requirements, tooling strategies, and shop standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to posted code, machine motion, rotary positioning, coordinate systems, tool changes, and canned cycles.
- Collaborate with CNC programmers, manufacturing engineers, operators, and machine tool suppliers to ensure post processors meet production requirements.
- Validate post processor output through simulation, prove‑out, first‑run support, and machine testing.
- Work on "brilliant factories" and other IT driven manufacturing systems. Individuals in this area have IT expertise but are specialized primarily in Manufacturing.
- Standardize post processor logic, formatting, and outputs to improve program consistency, machine safety, and ease of use.
- Support introduction of new CNC equipment by developing and qualifying new post processors and machine‑specific programming standards.
- Investigate and correct errors related to axis inversion, overtravel, singularities, collision risk, feedrate behavior, and controller syntax.
- Support root cause analysis of machining issues linked to post processor behavior, machine code generation, or controller execution.
- Train programmers and manufacturing teams on post processor usage, limitations, updates, and best practices.
- Ensure posted programs comply with internal standards, machine safety requirements, and manufacturing process controls.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, CAM programming, or post‑processor development PLUS
- Minimum of 3 additional years of experience in manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, CAM programming, or post‑processor development
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, including milling, turning, multi‑axis machining, and machine kinematics
- Experience developing, modifying, and troubleshooting CAM post processors for machine‑specific applications
- Familiarity with major CNC controllers such as Fanuc, Okuma OSP, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of G‑code / M‑code structure, machine motion logic, work offsets, tool compensation, and canned cycles
- Experience with CAM systems such as NX CAM, Mastercam, CATIA, or equivalent manufacturing software
- Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues involving posted code, simulation results, machine prove‑out, and controller behavior
- Strong problem‑solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and process improvement
- Ability to collaborate effectively with programmers, operators, manufacturing engineers, OEMs, and software suppliers
- Demonstrated attention to detail in code validation, documentation, and revision control
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on standardization, efficiency, and error reduction
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
