The Lynn Woods Park Ranger will oversee Lynn Woods Park and other areas of the woods as needed. They will need to improve the common areas as much as possible and help with all the noted activities.
SUPERVISIONWorks under the general direction of the Executive Director along with community groups, any maintenance assistants, enforcement authorities and any other duties as noted below.
JOB ENVIRONMENTWork is performed mostly outdoors, and in the field, with exposure to variable weather conditions, loud noises, and hazards associated with the woods. Workload is subject to seasonal fluctuations. The employee may occasionally be required to attend meetings and respond to concerns by the public. Moderate physical effort is required to perform field work. The employee is required to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds.

A:
Maintenance of Park and Watershed
- Remove fallen trees blocking roads and trails.
- Brush back growth along trails and roads.
- Paint over or remove graffiti.
- Install and maintain erosion control structures on trails.
- Clean Park house and restroom for use during events and meetings.
- Mark trails, make and install signs, maintain map.
- Work with Rose Garden Club to maintain Rose Garden.
- Collect litter throughout park and watershed.
B:
Education
- Host school field trips.
- Lead scout and youth group activities.
- Conduct adult programs including nature and history walks.
C:
Enforcement
Primary responsibility is to inform offenders of violations or contact local police or State Environmental Police if deemed necessary. Respond to illegal activities including:
- Swimming and boating
- Camping
- Dumping
- Dogs off leash
- Paintball and airsoft activities
- Alcohol and illegal drug use
- Respond to noise complaints
- Unauthorized trail building
- No off-trail biking
- Dirt bikes and ATV’s
D:
Community Outreach
- Work closely with the Friends of Lynn Woods and other community groups to promote and improve the park.
- Helps with grants to cover costs of programming and maintenance supplies.
- Hold public programs to increase awareness of park and watershed issues.
- Build relationships with park users and abutters and seek their assistance in reporting enforcement issues and maintenance needs.
- Recruit and supervise volunteers to help with park maintenance.
E:
Other Duties
- Locate fires, contact LFD.
- Respond to reports of injuries, contact and assist LFD if necessary.
- Search for lost hikers, dogs etc., contact LPD and LFD if necessary.
- Able to help Lynn Water and Sewer staff as needed for water measurements.
- Regular check-in daily with Executive Director on status of Parks.
- Performs similar or related work, as required, or as situation dictates.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Knowledge: Must have a minimum of three to five years’ experience in open space management. Must be self-motivated, possess adequate social and leadership skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and be skillful in the use of forestry/gardening tools. Must have significant experience in the use of chainsaws and tree felling.
Skills: Customer service and human relations skills and ability to work with residents, hold events, attend meetings as needed.
Ability: Able to keep accurate and detailed notes and records. Ability to read documents. Ability to analyze and identify project problems and find solutions. Ability to work effectively with people. Ability to view a computer monitor. Ability to operate an automobile.
