Associate Faculty Pool, Art Department (PT Faculty)

SALARY: A five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94

LOCATION:

Lynnwood Washington

DESCRIPTION:

Edmonds College and the Humanities Division invite applications for an associate faculty Art/Studio Art Instructor. The college seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.

Faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes to a diverse student body in either an art studio environment combined with online course management and/or within an online/hybrid model; developing curriculum; preparing teaching materials; developing and assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work; assigning grades; maintaining required records; and advising and consulting with students to support their success.

Instructors will be responsible for teaching art courses in one or more of the following areas of specialization: drawing, painting, art survey courses (online mode). The instructor will also be responsible for working with Visual Arts co-department chairs in the maintenance and ongoing development of the college's program of art studio and survey courses. Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College's mission and goals;

upholding the College's values; governance of the College via department and division work; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance trainings); personal and program evaluation. The teaching assignment may include early morning or late afternoon/evening classes and could include online teaching as well.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art, or Master of Art Education, or equivalent of either.

* Demonstrated artistic accomplishment in one or more of the media listed under Position Description.

* Excellent verbal, listening, problem-solving, critical thinking, and writing skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Ability to work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

* Competence to teach courses with multicultural perspectives, or willingness to develop such competence.

* Community college teaching experience.

* Evidence of excellence in teaching with a focus on student learning.

* Use of innovative teaching methods that includes new technologies in art instruction and project-based instruction.

* Willingness to incorporate the college-wide abilities of Critical Thinking, Group Process, Written and Oral Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning into course curricula.

* Experience with the use of online course management systems, i.e. Canvas.

DESIRED QUALITIES:

* Ability to work collaboratively in program and college-wide projects.

* Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into teaching.

* Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness and characteristics.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a classroom and office and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment.

COMPENSATION:

The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step
