Associate Faculty (PT) : CTAP Instructor Pool

SALARY: A five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94

LOCATION:

Lynnwood Washington

DESCRIPTION:

This position teaches and prepares students for entry into the trades' apprenticeship programs including Carpenters, Iron Workers, Cement Masons and Laborers. The CTAP program includes math, health and safety, work readiness, industry awareness, blueprint reading and drawing, tool training construction basics, basic electrical and plumbing and a capstone project. The program also includes agility station understanding and skills assessments.

The CTAP teaching position is located at Monroe Correctional Complex. MCC-Minimum Security Unit is a 300 bed, adult male minimum custody facility located approximately 30 miles north of Seattle, WA. Edmonds College at MCC offers Basic Education for Adults and vocational programming to students, including an AAS-T degree program, High School Credentials, CIS certificate, and CTAP certificates. The Monroe Correctional Complex offers incarcerated individuals with education and work opportunities that will assist them in their transition back to society.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Orient students to the objectives of the program, learning outcomes and assessment methods.

* Instruct students utilizing the assigned CTAP curriculum.

* Maintain required agility stations, provide practice time for students recording their progress utilizing established rubric.

* Monitor and evaluate student progress documenting assessments in student files.

* Participate in curriculum revision, program management and research related activities.

* Update program with new methodologies and technologies as appropriate including personnel from the other CTAP sites to maintain state-wide program consistency.

* Work with CTAP Advisory Committee as needed.

* Review and recommend materials and equipment needs to the Education Dean.

* Maintain tool and material inventory in accordance with DOC policy and procedures.

* Coordinate student projects with the facility personnel as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* A minimum of five years of journey level experience in building trades OR three years journey level work experience beyond a degree in building trades area.

* Understand the goals and objectives of the community college program at the correctional setting.

* Ability to communicate with individuals across organizational levels and agencies.

* Understand and incorporate the Department of Corrections security policies and procedures into classrooms and lab settings.

* Ability to effectively combine an array of methods to enhance understanding, including demonstrations, lectures, group discussions and activities.

* Understand which teaching methods best serve the student
¿ s needs, interests, and ability to learn.

* Ability to recognize the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual differences in people.

* Ability to build constructive working relationships, characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.

* Ability to develop accurate standards to measure learning, administer testing or other evaluation criteria to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Instruction occurs in a state correctional facility, where the potential for violence exists. Work is typically done in a classroom and lab settings which may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time. May require lifting over 25 pounds. Able to demonstrate safe and proper use of construction tools, materials, and equipment.
