LOCATION:
Lynnwood Washington

DEPARTMENT
DESCRIPTION:
Edmonds College and the Humanities and Social Sciences Division invite applications for Associate faculty in our Philosophy department. The college seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.
Faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes to a diverse student body (classes may be on ground, hybrid, or fully online); preparing teaching materials; assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work; assigning grades; maintaining required records; and consulting with students to support their success.
Instructors will be responsible for teaching philosophy courses in one or more of the following areas of specialization:
Introduction to Philosophy, Symbolic Logic, Critical Thinking, Contemporary Moral Issues.
Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College's mission and goals; upholding the College's values; governance of the College via department and division work; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance trainings); personal and program evaluation. The teaching assignment may include early morning or late afternoon/evening classes and could include online teaching as well.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master of Arts or Sciences degree in Philosophy or related discipline with substantive graduate level course work, teaching, and/or research in Philosophy.
* Demonstrated commitment to student success.
* Excellent verbal, listening, problem-solving, critical thinking and writing skills.
DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Ability to work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
* Competence to teach courses with multicultural perspectives in a community college setting with a focus on student learning.
* Willingness to incorporate the college-wide abilities of Critical Thinking, Group Process, Written and Oral Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning into course curricula.
* Experience with the use of online course management systems, i.e. Canvas.
* Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into teaching.
* Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness and characteristics.
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in a classroom and office and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to communicate effectively is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment.
COMPENSATION:
The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step
A. Special assignments are paid at $45 per hour, and meeting stipends are compensated per the CBA rate, starting at $55 for meetings lasting from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.
