Associate Faculty Pool, Biology (PT Faculty)

Salary: A five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree, or equivalent degree, in biology or related life science discipline.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience in biology or other life science at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching biology at a community college.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and focus on student learning.
  • Ability to work in a variety of teaching and learning situations, including with individuals from a wide variety of cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds, diverse ages, life experiences and abilities.
  • Knowledge and evidence of innovative, student-centered and evidence-based teaching methods and curriculum development best practices.
  • Experience with the use of technology (including biotechnology and learning management systems) in teaching biology, especially in laboratories.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, staff, colleagues and supervisors as part of an educational team.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for biology education and ability to encourage interest in science, lifelong learning, undergraduate research, service learning and/or create learning experiences that take biology students outside the traditional classroom.
  • Ability to foster a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in the study of science.
Physical Work Environment

Work is typically performed in a classroom and laboratory and sometimes in the field. This requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and use of laboratory chemicals and organisms. The ability to access field locations (beach, forest, etc.) is necessary for some courses. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment.

Compensation

The work schedule is based on an eleven‑week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step

A. Special assignments are paid at $45 per hour, and meeting stipends are compensated per the CBA rate, starting at $55 for meetings lasting from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.

Conditions of Employment
  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • All new positions are contingent upon funding.
