About the Position

This posting is for a School Psychologist position in a pool. Applications are placed into an applicant pool for School Psychologists and may be used for direct hiring or advertised as individual positions. The school psychologist works under the direct supervision of the Director of Itinerant Support Services, working with students, teachers and families to support students in achieving the fullest potential educational experience from school.

The school psychologist assesses student skills, plans and provides academic and social‑emotional interventions.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Leads multi‑disciplinary teams in completing evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services.
  • Conducts comprehensive psycho‑educational evaluations of students for the purpose of special education eligibility or recommending courses of action to maximize learning and social‑emotional skills.
  • Employs a strengths‑based approach to writing evaluation reports that meet state timelines and district guidelines, written to be easily understood by teachers and families.
  • Conducts counseling activities according to district counseling program requirements and building needs, including classroom lessons and individual or small‑group counseling for students requiring supplemental support.
  • Coordinates with administrators and teaching staff to familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant on mental health and conducts in‑service programs as requested.
  • Provides counseling to help students increase self‑awareness, self‑management, decision‑making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, conducting research, and maintaining professional affiliations.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate management of special education evaluation timelines, including initial referrals and triennial evaluations.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Itinerant Support Services. The above responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessment methods, behavior modification, and current developments in child psychology, including differentiated instruction based on student learning profiles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to provide leadership with colleagues regarding areas of expertise.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
Required Qualifications

Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate as a School Psychologist.
