Description

The Social and Human Services Department accepts applications for part-time teaching on an ongoing basis. The department offers a variety of degrees and certificates that are listed on the department web site onds.edu/programs/shs. We are currently looking for instructors to teach courses focused on addiction studies, case management, law and ethics, counseling skills and theory, human development, crisis intervention, mental illness, group work, senior services, and behavioral health.

Most quarters are 11 weeks long; each week consists of approximately five hours of class time. Daytime, evening, and online instructors may be needed. Training for teaching online or using Canvas (the college's learning management system) is available for all employees. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work, human services, counseling, mental health, alcohol and chemical dependency counseling or a closely related field or equivalent experience.
  • One year of recent work experience in a behavioral health or chemical dependency counseling environment.
  • Excellent speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Good technology skills and familiarity with the Internet and communicating online.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at a community college or university.
  • Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse ages, backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities, including adult learners.
  • Experience working with Canvas or other online learning management systems.
Physical Work Environment

Work is typically performed in a classroom which requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment.

Compensation

The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step

A. Special assignments are paid at $45 per hour, and meeting stipends are compensated per the CBA rate, starting at $55 for meetings lasting from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.

Conditions of Employment
  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
