Position

Information

This position works collaboratively with lead instructors, classroom teachers, and staff in preschool classrooms or other learning environments. It assists with a variety of instructional support activities to promote social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic growth needed for kindergarten. It prepares educational materials and assists in implementing curriculum; communicates and collaborates with families, assesses student development; monitors students’ progress, behavior, and safety.

It performs routine clerical tasks to support teachers and other district staff.

Shift Details

3.25 - 6.5 hours per day, Mon.

-Thurs.;
Special Calendar (actual number of paid work days depends on start date and schedule).

This is a pool posting for numerous open positions. The status, work locations, work hours, and work schedules will be determined by the specific vacancy the applicant accepts.

Hourly Rate

$31.21 to $35.06 (hourly) (2025-26 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)

Para educator Level IA - Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP)

Required Qualifications
  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • In addition, a para educator must meet one of the following:
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  • Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
  • ETS Para Pro Assessment
  • Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
  • In addition, ECEAP Paraeducators must meet one of the following qualifications:
  • 1) have the equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education;
  • 2) hold an initial or higher Washington State Early Childhood Education Certificate;
  • 3) hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.
Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications or ability to acquire depending on job assignment.
  • Possession of Food Handler permit within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training is required for all employees who work in a self-contained classroom.
  • Complete a background clearance check, in accordance to WAC
  • Provide proof of tuberculosis (TB) testing or treatment in accordance to WAC (3).
  • Provide proof of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW .
  • Must complete two full days (14 hours) of FCS Training. This in-person training is mandatory for all para educators.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
  • Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues desirable.
  • Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.
