Professional Development opportunities

General Function:

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes the growth and development of preschool children. This position assists with classroom instruction, child supervision, family engagement, documentation, and daily program operations while maintaining compliance with ECEAP performance standards and agency requirements. The Assistant Teacher collaborates with staff and families to support positive child outcomes and the overall success of the program.

Principal

Activities:

Supervises and interacts with children to extend their learning.

Facilitates small group activities.

Models appropriate and professional practice aligned with ECEAP performance standards.

Assists with record keeping related to attendance, meal counts, parent contact hours, accidents, illnesses, and emergency drills.

Records child observations and assists with child assessments as needed.

Participates in home visits and parent-teacher conferences when appropriate.

Plans, implements, and attends parent/family events, activities, and meetings.

Actively participates in all site-based, county, and agency meetings and in-service trainings.

Performs classroom and program housekeeping tasks.

Translates written and verbal information to children, parents and staff when applicable.

Enriches the cultural relevance of the indoor and outdoor learning environments.

Performs other tasks as directed

The Assistant Teacher contributes to a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports each child's developmental, educational, and social-emotional growth while ensuring compliance with ECEAP standards and program requirements. Through effective collaboration with teaching staff, families, and community partners, this role helps foster strong family engagement, maintain accurate program documentation, and promote positive outcomes for children and the overall success of the early learning program.#voaww1

Qualifications:

All persons serving in the role of ECEAP Assistant Teacher must meet one of the following qualifications, or begin and complete a Professional Development Plan Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.

DCYF Equivalent Completion of Child Care Basics Training or equivalence

All employees are required to obtain the following within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner:

A current Infant, Child and Adult First Aid/CPR CertificationHIV/AIDS and Blood-Borne Pathogens Training Washington State Patrol/MERIT Background Check Hepatitis B Vaccination (optional)
TB TestMMR Immunization or Immunity Proof Food Handler’s Card

Physical Requirements:

Read, speak, stand, walk, sit and use a computer keyboard and monitor.

Hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, children, parents, and volunteers.

Reach above head, bend to the floor, and perform repetitive movements.

Transfer up to 50 lbs. with help.

Have sufficient finger dexterity to open containers, buttons, and zippers.

This position may be exposed to bodily fluids, infections, and odors.
