Component and Failure Analysis Engineer II-III

Crane Aerospace and Electronics seeks a Component and Failure Analysis Engineer (Level II‑III) for our Lynnwood, WA location. The role is on‑site and involves analyzing failures and construction of aerospace and defense electronic components and assemblies using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.

Essential Functions
  • Perform component‑level failure and construction analyses on a variety of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components and assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications.
  • Use multiple tools during the analyses, including electrical test equipment, temperature chambers, X‑ray imaging, optical imaging, scanning electron microscopy, electron dispersive spectroscopy, and X‑ray fluorescence.
  • Prepare analysis reports for internal and external customers, conveying complex information in a concise and insightful manner.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Component and Failure Analysis Engineer II: 2+ years of experience performing component‑level analysis in electronics equipment.
  • Component and Failure Analysis Engineer III: 5+ years of experience performing component‑level analysis in electronics equipment.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated expertise performing analyses on a variety of EEE (Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical) components, including an understanding of key characteristics and potential failure modes and mechanisms.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient with the tools listed above and able to perform hands‑on evaluation of components and assemblies.
  • Ability to develop new applications for existing tools and determine the best option for a particular failure analysis.
  • Strong multi‑tasking and prioritization skills; ability to follow and improve processes.
  • Sound judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; works well within a team environment.

Education / Certification:

  • BA or BS degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
Eligibility Requirement

This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where such access is required, only U.S. Persons will be considered. As a U.S. Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Working Conditions

Standard office and laboratory environment. Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail and manual dexterity for cross‑sectioning and polishing of samples. Laboratory environment may require safety equipment and appropriate PPE. Possible exposure to loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust, fumes, and chemicals used for decapsulation, potting of samples, and etching.

  • Standing: 40% approximate
  • Sitting: 60% approximate
  • Lifting: up to 20 pounds
  • Pushing: up to 20 pounds
  • Mental/Visual: use of computer, optical inspection, and imaging equipment (microscopes)

Salary Range

Component Engineer level II: $104,000 – $123,000 USD annually. Component Engineer level III: $124,800 – $148,300 USD annually.
