Position OverviewWe are seeking an Electrical Inspector to support the City of Lynnwood's Development Services Department. This role provides electrical plan review and field inspection services for residential, commercial, and public building projects, ensuring compliance with the Lynnwood Municipal Code, National Electrical Code (NEC), and Washington State electrical laws.
The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical code professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to public safety. This position requires daily interaction with developers, contractors, engineers, and the public.
This is a non-personal services contract position. The contractor employee reports directly to the Prime Contractor for all HR, disciplinary, and administrative matters, while receiving work direction from City of Lynnwood management.
Key Responsibilities- Perform electrical plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public building projects
- Review electrical drawings and calculations for compliance with NEC and Washington State Electrical Code
- Approve or disapprove plans, alterations, and changes; document decisions
- Conduct field inspections for electrical systems including service entrances, panel boards, and grounding
- Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations
- Communicate effectively with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies
- Monitor, track, and report on development status using Smart Gov and Bluebeam
- High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school or apprenticeship completion preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a licensed electrician and/or electrical inspector
- ICC Electrical Inspector certification required
- Washington State Journey-Level or Master Electrician license preferred
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- Expert knowledge of NEC and Washington State Electrical Code (RCW 19.28)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software
- Proficient in written and verbal English
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Hours:
Typically 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday - Location:
Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036 - Federal holidays off
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must wear government-issued identification badge at all times
- Must complete City-required cybersecurity awareness training
- Must maintain valid Washington State automobile insurance if using a vehicle on City business
