THE POSITION:

Cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a catheter into a chamber or vessel of the heart. It can be used as a way to diagnose heart conditions, or as treatment. Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses assist doctors performing these procedures. As a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse, you can specialize even further in coronary catherization—procedures that involve coronary arteries, and take place in state of the art labs.

In this specialty, you’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technology in cardiac care.

Certification Needed:
This position may require one or more of these certifications: BLS, ACLS

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the physician (Cardiologist/Radiologist), will assist by scrubbing procedures and/ or monitoring physiologic and hemodynamic data, as related to diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures performed in the cardiovascular lab. Certified to operate fluoro/pan with Fluoro CA license addendum. Ensures procedure room is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors par level of all instruments and supplies. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities and the training of new staff.

Assists in all aspects of invasive and noninvasive cardiac procedures. Prepares power injector and contrast medium. Injects contrast during procedures and monitors injector rates/ quantity of contrast administered during all procedures.
