Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist

Reports to: School Principal

Department: Student Services

Job Type: Full-Time (35 hours/week)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary/Benefits: Refer to Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement

Job Function: Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats students with speech or language disorders, formulates individualized treatment programs, maintains records, and informs faculty and guardians about students' progress.

Term: 10-month school calendar as defined by the Board of Education and Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the needs of students with speech or language disorders and match them with programs available through the educational system.
  • Meet with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule, evaluate, and maintain records of students' progress.
  • Report progress to administrators, teachers, and special education teams, and meet with them regularly to discuss evaluations of students' skills as demonstrated in class performance and social interaction with other students.
  • Report progress to guardians and meet with them regularly; suggest activities guardians can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program; address concerns and answer questions.
  • Repeat evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
  • Talk with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations.
  • Establish and implement small group management structure and rules that ensure academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students; supervise all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
  • Maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Maintain knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Recognize and support diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate that encourages a cooperative and participatory attitude among all staff and students; celebrate student achievements.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
  • Attend work as scheduled and arrive in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Perform additional related duties within the scope of this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure that students, faculty members, and guardians understand the program and the degree of progress being made.
  • Thorough understanding of speech/language development and how it relates to academic instruction.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience

Master's degree in related subject area; appropriate state license or certification;
Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement required. At least two years of speech pathology work experience in a school setting preferred.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds sonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, absent undue hardship.
