Chemical Development Trace Analysis Scientist

Full-time, permanent (36.5 hour week, Monday – Friday)

We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and innovative Analytical Scientist based at a world‑class pharmaceutical client in Macclesfield. The role focuses on drug substance development and advanced trace analysis.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimise and validate advanced trace analysis methods using LC‑MS and Orbitrap technologies to detect and quantify trace‑level small molecules in raw materials, intermediates and drug substances.
  • Provide technical expertise to project teams, supporting the assessment of mutagenic impurities, nitrosamines and other trace analytes at parts‑per‑billion levels.
  • Perform complex analytical investigations, interpret scientific data and apply innovative problem‑solving skills to deliver accurate, high‑quality results for clients.
  • Support and enhance Eurofins’ trace analysis capabilities by sharing specialist knowledge, advising stakeholders and contributing to the successful delivery of analytical programmes.
  • Author and review key analytical documentation, including testing plans, method development reports and validation protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary internal and external teams, communicating scientific concepts clearly while contributing to a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Degree or higher qualification in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related scientific discipline, with a strong foundation in organic chemistry and analytical science.
  • Pharmaceutical analytical experience within a development laboratory environment, including analysis of raw materials, intermediates and drug substances.
  • Hands‑on experience developing and applying advanced analytical techniques (LC‑MS/MS, GC‑MS/MS, GC‑HRMS, LC‑HRMS) and familiarity with NMR, IC or ICP‑MS is advantageous.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate analytical and instrumentation issues, learn new processes quickly and develop effective technical solutions.
  • Understanding of GMP requirements and experience with electronic systems and Microsoft Office; excellent documentation, organisational and data management skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate a strong commitment to quality, customer service and continuous improvement.
