Processing & Tooling Technician
Reports to:
Tool Room Supervisor
- Move molds to and from areas by pushing and pulling on a pallet jack or mold cart.
- Use tools to lift, move, disassemble, and reassemble dies.
- Operate sonic cleaning system to clean and care for molds.
- Handle chemicals used in the mold cleaning process.
- Read and understand blueprints, part drawings, or instructions to determine methods or sequences of mold maintenance operations.
- Diagnose and repair tooling problems that create defects in plastic parts, including corrective actions such as replacing cores, verifying heights, and fit.
- Work on various mold configurations: cold runners, hybrid cold runner with hot manifold, hot sprues, various ejection systems.
- Use tools and equipment such as impact wrench, pry bars, crescent wrench, ratchet wrench, C-clamps, rechargeable drill, mallets, overhead cranes, belt table grinder, milling machine, manual/powered pallet jack, and compressed air.
- Operate tool and die equipment such as lathes, mills, or other machinery for mold maintenance and repairs.
- Adhere to company standards for conducting work and safety inspections of equipment.
- Work safely in accordance with OSHA and internal safety policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot, correct, and repair injection molds, analyzing root causes and applying appropriate skills to resolve issues.
- Communicate orally and in writing within a team-based environment; assist operations as needed.
- Analyze data and information adhering to Standards.
- Maintain housekeeping and safety standards.
- Perform mold startups without setup sheets when necessary.
- Provide molded components on time to meet production schedules.
- Handle customer sample runs.
- Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting for scientific molding processes.
- Coordinate tooling changes and repair work with the mold shop.
- Proactively troubleshoot cycle time and cavitation deviations, supplying solutions to achieve standards.
- Assist co‑workers as needed, displaying personal accountability and problem‑solving.
- Serve as the designated trainer for all new Level1 and Level2 processors, mentoring beyond initial training.
- Manage time effectively and process all materials on all molds independently.
- Create process sheets and troubleshoot machine issues, identifying root causes and determining corrective actions.
Processor Level
III Tool Room
Experience:
5+ years of work experience with plastic injection molds.
Basic shop math and computer skills; basic machine troubleshooting skills and ability to solve mechanical issues.
Willingness to assist other cross‑functional groups; ability to work independently and proactively.
Analyze, interpret, and report data based on machine performance.
Minimum high school diploma or GED preferred.
Ability to learn, grow, and adapt to changing business needs.
Qualifications- Strong mechanical aptitude; some electrical aptitude.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem‑solve.
- Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Dependability, initiative, cooperation, innovation, persistence, and integrity.
- Current knowledge and adherence to safety regulations and company standards.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 35 lbs and perform other tasks such as sitting, standing, climbing, walking, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, grasping, reaching, speaking, and listening.
Frequently required to lift or move weights up to 35 lbs. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on the production floor. Physical demands include but are not limited to sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, color determination, grasping, reaching, speaking, and listening.
