Job Overview
Fusion Medical Staffing-Nursing is seeking a travel nurse RN OR – Operating Room for a 13‑week travel assignment in Machias, Maine. The start date is 07/06/2026, with 40 hours per week on 8‑hour day shifts. This position is a travel assignment with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications- One year of recent experience as an Operating Room RN
- Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- ACLS (AHA/ARC), PALS (AHA/ARC), or ENPC certifications
- OR Nursing Certification (CNOR)
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety and comfort during surgical procedures. The role involves preparing the operating room, managing surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
Essential Work Functions- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each surgical procedure.
- Assist in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety according to procedural requirements.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adhere to infection control protocols and sterile technique.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly to maintain efficient workflow.
- Monitor the patient's condition during surgery, documenting significant changes and notifying the surgeon.
- Handle surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring their proper use, sterilization, and disposal according to facility protocols.
- Manage specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to facility protocols, ensuring accurate diagnostic results.
- Document all aspects of patient care in the perioperative setting accurately and thoroughly.
- Participate in patient handoff communication during pre‑ and post‑operative phases, ensuring continuity of care.
- Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases, adhering to infection control and turnover protocols.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.
- Physical:
Must remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend. - Interpersonal:
Must work effectively with a variety of personnel and maintain a positive attitude and professionalism. - Technical/Motor:
Must grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move around when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment. - Mental:
Must manage frequent contact with the general public and customers, meet deadlines under pressure, work under close supervision occasionally, and maintain concentration on detail. - Sensory:
Must have visual acuity and ability to communicate effectively.
