The Immigration Specialist is the primary contact for international students and faculty.
Responsibilities include:
- Tracking international students and scholars in the SEVIS system.
- Advising on visa‑related issues and immigration regulations.
- Directing and facilitating WIU compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and policies.
- Serving as senior immigration adviser and SEVIS trainer.
- Managing pre‑enrollment advising and academic admission for international students.
- Consulting on F‑1 and J‑1 visas, signing immigration documents as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) or Responsible Officer (RO).
- Ensuring all actions comply with U.S. immigration law.
- Maintaining all required documentation and records.
- One year (12 months) of responsible work experience in immigration counseling or visa application filing in a higher‑education setting.
- Progressively more responsible experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing totaling at least 36 months.
- College coursework leading to a major in business administration, education administration, social or behavioral sciences, foreign language, or a related field.
- 60 semester hours equals 1 year, 90 semester hours equals 2 years, 120 semester hours or a bachelor’s degree equals 3 years of study.
- A master’s degree in Education Administration, Counseling, International Relations, International Development, Cross‑Cultural Communication, or Communications satisfies credential requirements.
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or possess legal permanent resident status.
- Degree must be conferred by a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
