Cardiac Sonographer (Echocardiography)
Under general supervision, provides diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for disorders of the respiratory, cardiac, and vascular systems upon receiving written prescriptions from the physician. Collaborates with the medical staff and other healthcare professionals to develop a plan of care for the patient. Plans education for the patient and family members regarding procedures. Requires knowledge of the proper performance of both vascular and cardiac diagnostic testing.
Must understand the anatomy of the cardiac and vascular systems for ultrasound procedures. Knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation is also required. Important to interact with patients and their families and deliver appropriate care to diverse populations. Must be capable of pushing ultrasound machines for portable studies and positioning the ultrasound transducer for lengthy exams. Familiarity with various types of ultrasound imaging systems and physiological doppler systems is essential.
Graduation from an approved school of an Allied Health Field with additional training in ultrasound procedures is required. Two years of experience in cardiac echo on adults is required.
