American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Acute Care) travel assignment requiring an active IL RN license and telemetry monitoring experience in a small, team-oriented rural hospital setting.

Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3–5 years preferred, ideally in a rural hospital setting
  • Current BLS certification required
  • PALS certification required
  • Telemetry monitoring experience required
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • BSN not required
Responsibilities
  • 16-bed Med/Surg (Acute Care) unit in a rural hospital setting
  • Diverse patient population including respiratory conditions (COPD, pneumonia), cellulitis, CHF, and surgical cases such as colon resections and orthopedic procedures (total hips and knees)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
  • Telemetry monitoring via Nihon Kohden; RNs are responsible for interpreting their own strips
  • Equipment includes high-flow oxygen and Vapotherm; more complex respiratory support (e.g., BiPAP) cases are transferred to the ICU
  • Charting via Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Every other or every third weekend required
  • No mandatory holiday coverage; volunteers are appreciated
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating may include assisting as a safety sitter or in other supportive roles
  • Occasional assistance with outpatient infusions as needed
  • High patient turnover with frequent admissions and discharges throughout the day
  • Comprehensive first-week orientation covering HR processes, infection control training, equipment familiarization, and hands‑on experience with a preceptor
  • Team includes a CNA, clinical care coordinator, a charge nurse who takes active patient assignments, and a house supervisor available on weekends
  • Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance with traveler preferences accommodated when possible
  • Experience with outpatient infusions is preferred but not required
  • Strong focus on thorough charting is expected
  • Pewter scrub tops with black pants and shoes required; colored tops are acceptable when layered under a pewter outer garment
