Job Title:
Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit

Description:
This unit has 7 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 for optimal patient care.
Types of patients include those with COPD, AFIB, and post-operative cases such as colon resections,
as well as diabetic patients, COVID-19 patients, and occasional cases of alcohol withdrawal,
suicidal patients, and GI bleeds.
Common drips include Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin for minimally sedated or ventilated patients.
12-hour shifts run from 7 AM to 7:30 PM and 7 PM to 7:30 AM, with schedules posted 6 weeks in advance.
Weekend requirements include working every third weekend for night shifts or every other weekend for day shifts.
Holiday work is negotiable, and willingness to work holidays is helpful.
Call or standby is not required but appreciated if agency nurses are willing to pick up shifts.
ICU nurses may float to Med-Surg/Acute Care when necessary, but this is infrequent.
The charge nurse may take patient assignments, and support staff, including nurse aides, augment care.
Hospitalist and nurse practitioner support is available daily, and Anesthesia or ER teams assist in emergencies.
Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7, with monitoring facilitated by RNs reading their own strips.
No dedicated monitor techs are present, and telemetry monitors used are Nihon Kohden cardiac monitors.
Scrub colors are pewter tops or jackets and black pants, shoes, and socks, with colored tops permitted if the outermost layer is pewter.
The charting system used is Cerner.
BSN is not required for this position.
The unit covers trauma and is set in an acute care setting.
