Summary
Performs responsible work involving the coordination and direction of recreational summer programs and activities for Macon‑Bibb County residents. Activity leaders are responsible for teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities provided by the center staff and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes. Responsible for leading the teaching of activities. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their group.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
- Communicate and work with groups of varying age and skill levels to provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior‑management techniques.
- Use visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
- Assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Minimum qualifications for the Summer Activity Leader position: must be 18 years of age, possess a high school graduate or equivalent GED, and have one (1) year or more successful working experience in parks/recreational activities. Must be creative and able to use critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to interact with all age levels.
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors while effectively teaching and demonstrating the summer camp curriculum.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of youth.
- Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in program areas designated for camp program areas.
