About the Position
We are seeking a CEI Inspector Aid (or potentially CEI Inspector I) who will provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in the state of Georgia. This is entry level inspector work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers on assignments relating to highway and bridge construction inspection. Work is generally performed under technical and administrative supervision and may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
This posting is for a full time, long-term, onsite CEI Inspector Aid (or potentially CEI Inspector I) position located between Macon and Savannah, east of Valdosta and southwest of Augusta, GA.
- Will provide a range of routine and standardized work including, but not limited to, manual and/or electronic calculations, computations, and inspections of construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with the construction contract.
- Will inspect truck load tickets for roadway aggregate base course; borrow material and asphaltic concrete at project field sites.
- Will perform a variety of simple materials sampling, inspection and/or testing.
- Will perform contract administrative duties, which may include field measurements of pay item quantities, project close-out, as well as other Department required documentation.
- May be required to use several different pieces of equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc. Incumbents will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work.
- May be required to work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contamination.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- General knowledge of mathematical functions.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators.
- Ability to learn and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.).
The following certifications are required to be obtained within 12 months of the CEI Inspector Aid’s start date.
Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
- GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
- GDOT WECS.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.
Preferred Requirements- 1.5+ years’ experience working as a CEI Inspector Aide.
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
Expected Salary: $35k-$62k/year ($16-$30/hour).
