Job SummaryMiddle Georgia State University is seeking a part‑time Student Assistant to serve as a Supplemental Instructor (SI) Leader or Embedded Tutor (ET) in the Student Success Center.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Supplemental Instructor (SI) Leader
- Attend weekly lectures of historically difficult courses as a model student, build rapport with students, and plan SI collaborative review sessions.
- Help students reinforce knowledge from class lectures and assignments and offer strategies to integrate “how to learn” with “what to learn.”
- Meet regularly with the faculty member and attend SSC training.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure FERPA compliance.
As an Embedded Tutor (ET)
- Assist faculty with in‑class support, primarily for Corequisite Math and English courses.
- Attend corequisite lectures as required.
- Meet regularly with the faculty member and attend SSC training.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure FERPA compliance.
- Currently enrolled MGA student.
- Enrolled in 6 or more semester hours per semester.
- GPA of 3.00 or greater.
- Grade of A or B in the SI course, taken at MGA or a transfer institution.
- Faculty recommendation on campus.
- Demonstrated course content competency via transcript and faculty recommendation.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong commitment to public service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant experience in academic support, tutoring, or mentoring.
