Job DescriptionCertification in Middle School English Language Arts is preferred; however, Bibb County is a Strategic Waiver District. Alternative certification routes are available to individuals with a degree from an accredited institution.
This position is Title I funded.
Job SummaryThis position plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students and creates an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of each child to ensure achievement for all.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions Teaching Tasks- Provides Instruction (teaches at an appropriate instructional level, provides content development, builds for transfer)
- Assesses and Encourages Student Progress (promotes engagement, monitors progress, responds to progress needs, supports students)
- Manages the Learning Environment (uses time efficiently, maintains effective physical setting, maintains appropriate student behavior)
- Communicates effectively with all stakeholders in the virtual platform in written and oral form, using positive interpersonal skills
- Uses a variety of programs and software applications to complete instructional and administrative tasks
- Participates in professional learning to enhance the ability to provide engaging online instruction and to obtain a virtual teaching endorsement
- Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure timely completion of coursework
- Follows professional practices consistent with school and district policies in working with students, records, parents, and colleagues
- Interacts professionally with students and parents
- Is available for conferences according to district policies
- Facilitates home‑school communication through conferences, telephone, and written communications
- Maintains confidentiality of students and records
- Works cooperatively with administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents
- Complies with school, district, and state regulations and Board of Education policies
- Conducts assigned classes at scheduled times
- Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
- Is punctual
- Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher
- Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings according to school policy
- Complies with conditions stated in the contract of employment
- Demonstrates professional practices in teaching (models correct use of language, oral and written; demonstrates accurate and up‑to‑date knowledge of content; implements designated curriculum; maintains lesson plans; assigns reasonable tasks and homework)
- Acts professionally and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety, and good order (takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities; supervises students in out‑of‑class settings)
- Performs other duties as required based on the specific content area taught (e.g., content‑area competitions, after‑hours activities)
- Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and other supporting staff and volunteers, providing input to the administrative staff on their performance
- Performs other duties required by the district, school, or student need
Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of student growth and development
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting documents related to safety, technology, and educational procedures
- Ability to prepare and communicate effectively through written reports, lesson plans, and correspondence
- Skill in computing and interpreting data, including rate, ratio, and percent calculations
- Proficiency in PC operations and software applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
