Job SummaryMiddle Georgia State University is seeking a part‑time Student Assistant to serve as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader or Embedded Tutor (ET) in the Student Success Center.
ResponsibilitiesAs an SI Leader:
- Attend class lectures of historically difficult courses as a model student, build rapport with students, and plan SI weekly collaborative review sessions.
- Help students reinforce knowledge from class lectures and assignments and offer strategies to integrate how to learn with what to learn.
- Meet with the faculty member regularly and attend SSC training.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure FERPA compliance.
As an Embedded Tutor:
- Assist faculty with in‑class support, primarily for Corequisite Math and English courses.
- Attend Corequisite lectures as required.
- Meet with the faculty member regularly and attend SSC training.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure FERPA compliance.
- Must be a currently enrolled MGA student.
- Must be enrolled in 6 or more semester hours per semester.
- Must have a GPA of 3.00 or greater.
- Grade of A or B in the SI course, taken at MGA or a transfer institution.
- Recommendation from faculty on campus.
- Demonstrated course‑content competency, as determined by transcript and faculty recommendation.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong commitment to public service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant experience in academic support, tutoring, mentoring, or similar roles.
