Department Information

The department of Media, Culture & the Arts builds on a solid foundation in the liberal arts to guide students toward their academic goals and prepare them for a global society. MCA coursework develops expertise in the visual arts and music; in creative, digital and professional writing; in media studies and public relations; in modern language; and on the stage with a developing theatre program.

Job Summary

The department of Media, Culture & the Arts within the School of Arts & Letters at MGA is seeking candidates for a Lecturer of Music. This position will support the music program by teaching vocal and choral studies, with a special emphasis on contemporary commercial music and vocal jazz, music theater, or gospel. Additional courses will include music appreciation and perspectives on music and society.

Responsibilities

The position involves teaching a 5/5 course load. As a lecturer, scholarship, service and student advisement are not required for success in the position. Teaching responsibilities may include day and/or evening classes, online and/or hybrid courses. The music program is housed on the Macon campus, but travel between campuses (Cochran, Dublin, Macon and Warner Robins) may be needed.

Required Qualifications

Required Educational Qualifications

M.M. or MFA in music is required.

Required Experience

Experience leading a choral ensemble in a variety of musical styles

Other

Required Qualifications

Active performer of contemporary commercial music and music theater or vocal jazz or gospel music

Informed teaching of contemporary commercial music and music theater or vocal jazz or gospel music

Piano skills sufficient to accompany student repertoire

Secondary teaching strength such as music industry, music theory, etc.

Interest in and commitment to the growth and evolution of a dynamic music program

Student-centered approach to teaching with a strong commitment to engagement

Strong communication, interpersonal and time-management skills

Commitment to engagement with the local arts community in Central Georgia

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

A DMA or equivalent is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience with online and/or hybrid delivery of coursework

Experience achieving high musical outcomes from students with various levels of previous musical training

Experience working and performing with sound amplification

Experience in student recruitment

Experience directing a gospel choir

Preferred Qualifications

Informed teaching of classical vocal production
