The Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice offers programs designed to produce scientifically analytic, critical thinkers prepared to succeed in meeting the challenges of modern life. The department offers an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and a Doctorate in Public Safety.
Job SummaryThis full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer in Public Safety position begins in Fall 2026. The area of specialization is open to all areas and approaches in the field of Public Safety. Successful applicants will teach various courses within the A.S. in Criminal Justice, B.S. in Criminal Justice, and D.S.P.S. in Public Safety programs. The teaching load for a Lecturer at MGA is a 5/5 course load with no expectations for scholarship or research production.
Student mentoring such as supervising student research and scholarship is encouraged. The role also includes serving as the Public Safety Education Outreach Advisor (40% of workload), acting as an academic liaison between the department and community partners and agencies, drafting curricular crosswalks, processing prior learning assessment portfolios (PLA/CPL), and recruiting for the public safety and criminal justice programs. Travel among campuses is expected.
The position is a ten‑month faculty appointment, with optional teaching of summer courses pending enrollment. Regular weekly on‑campus presence is required. Teaching responsibilities include face‑to‑face and online courses.
- Teach a workload of three to five courses per Fall and Spring semester in programs for the A.S. in Criminal Justice, B.S. in Criminal Justice, and D.S.P.S. in Public Safety.
- Serve as the Public Safety Education Outreach Advisor.
- Actively pursue continuous improvement in teaching.
- Engage in activities aimed at improving student success.
- Be present on campus regularly and weekly.
A master’s degree in Public Safety or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university (or international equivalent) is required.
Required Experience- Experience in a university setting.
- Experience that warrants a non-tenure‑track appointment.
- Experience teaching related courses at the college level.
A Doctorate in Public Safety or a closely related field is preferred. The field of specialization is open, but candidates will be evaluated on their fit with particular course teaching needs.
